Worship Ministries
Our Sunday liturgy integrates the gifts of the whole church. St. James' members help prepare the space for our service, read the lessons, lead the Prayers of the People, serve at the altar, and do so much more — both in the liturgy itself and "behind the scenes" — to make our weekly worship "a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving," as the BCP describes it.
How you can serve
Usher
Ushers welcome our Sunday worshippers, collect the offering, direct traffic during communion and at other points in the service, and answer any questions that come up.
Liturgical Assistant
Liturgical Assistants are part of the altar party and help to organize and conduct the service. They lead prayers and serve as chalice-bearers during Communion.
Altar Guild
Altar Guild members help to make Communion happen by preparing and caring for the various elements and vessels that are used at the altar each week.
Reader
Readers help to proclaim the Good News of God by reading our weekly lessons from the Old and New Testaments.
Acolytes
Acolytes are ministers — of any age! — who serve in the altar party and lead our processions, carrying items like the cross, the torches, or the Gospel Book. They assist as needed during Communion, and sometimes get to run errands during the service when the Priest (whoops!) forgets something.
Videographer
Videographers set up the camera and monitor the livestream feed that broadcasts our weekly service to Facebook Live.
